HC La Chaux-de-Fonds – Club History

HC La Chaux-de-Fonds is one of Switzerland’s historic ice hockey clubs. Founded in 1919 in the watchmaking city of La Chaux-de-Fonds, the club is closely associated with the Patinoire des Mélèzes and a remarkable era of six consecutive Swiss championships.

From Natural Ice to the Mélèzes

The club’s hockey section was established on 6 February 1919 within the local skating club and became independent in 1925. Early teams depended on natural ice and sometimes travelled to Lac des Taillères when conditions in town were unsuitable. The opening of the Mélèzes rink in 1953 provided a stronger foundation. Two years later, HCC reached Switzerland’s highest division for the first time.

Six Consecutive Swiss Championships

Between 1968 and 1973, La Chaux-de-Fonds won six consecutive Swiss championships, establishing one of the country’s great hockey dynasties. Coach Gaston Pelletier and players including Gérald Rigolet and Michel Turler helped shape this outstanding period. The team made the Mélèzes a major stage for Swiss hockey and created a sporting legacy that remains central to the club’s identity.

New Trophies in the Swiss League Era

HCC added a new chapter to its honours with back-to-back Swiss League championships in 2023 and 2024. Further success followed in the National Cup: the club won the competition in 2025 and retained the trophy against HC Sierre in 2026. Later that spring, La Chaux-de-Fonds reached another Swiss League final, finishing runners-up to Sierre.

Sechs Schweizer Meistertitel in Folge
